CVS CAREMARK CHARITY CLASSIC CELEBRATES 10-YEAR ANNIVERSARY AND $10 MILLION FUNDRAISING EFFORT Hundreds of Regional Charities Benefit From Decade of Great Golf and Philanthropy WOONSOCKET, RHODE ISLAND (April 14, 2008) -- The CVS Caremark Charity Classic will celebrate its 10th anniversary when 20 of the world's premier golfers take to the greens at Rhode Island Country Club June 22-24. These elite professionals will be celebrating more than great golf, however, as the they commemorate the philanthropic achievements of the tournament, which has become Rhode Island's number one charity sporting event. “Being a part of the CVS Caremark Charity Classic and witnessing first hand its growth and contributions to the community has been extremely rewarding,” said tournament co-host Brad Faxon. “As a native of Rhode Island it is an honor to be part of an event that has such a positive effect and far-reaching impact on the community,” said CVS Caremark Charity Classic co-host Billy Andrade. “I look forward to another great tournament.” Since its inaugural event in 1999, the CVS Caremark Charity Classic has made significant financial contributions to hundreds of New England-area philanthropic organizations dedicated to helping children and families. The tournament has donated more than $10 million to the vital programs and services these non-profits offer. The 2007 tournament raised $1.7 million dollars. “Giving back is at the heart of this tournament,” said Eileen Howard Dunn, Tournament Chairman, CVS Caremark Charity Classic. “We've challenged ourselves to make the 10th anniversary event the biggest and best yet. We've secured an outstanding field, so now our singular focus is to leverage the tournament to raise even more funds to support our outstanding local charities.” Throughout the years, the tournament has had widespread reach throughout the region providing essential funding to more than 300 worthy charities devoted improving the lives of kids and families. It is a natural outgrowth of CVS Caremark's philanthropic heritage. A wide cross-section of organizations - both big and small - benefit from the tournament fundraising efforts including, among others, American Red Cross, Best Buddies, Big Brothers of Rhode Island, Boston Children's Museum, Boys & Girls Club of Providence, Boys & Girl's Club of Woonsocket, Bradley's Children's Hospital, City Year Rhode Island, Make a Wish Foundation, Mark of Dimes, Meeting Street School, Rhode Island Family Shelter, Rhode Island Free Clinic, Save the Bay and Special Olympics. We are grateful for our ongoing relationship with this great local event.” Tournament The CVS Caremark Charity Classic tournament week begins with the Pepsi Pro-Am on Sunday, June 22 followed by the two-day tournament Monday, June 23- Tuesday, June, 24 at the Rhode Island Country Club. Participants in the 36-hole team event will be competing for a purse of $1.5 million. Tournament sponsors include Pepsi, Energizer and Johnson & Johnson. Beginning May 11th, tickets for the CVS Caremark Charity Classic will be available free through a special promotion at CVS/pharmacy stores in Rhode Island as well as select CVS/pharmacy locations in Massachusetts.
