Women Rule the Day After First Round of CVS Caremark Charity Classic

Co-ed Teams of Juli Inkster/Boo Weekley and Suzann Pettersen/Hunter Mahan Tied for Lead at -10

BARRINGTON, R.I. (June 28, 2010) – The co-ed teams of Juli Inkster and Boo Weekly as well as Suzann Pettersen and Hunter Mahan are vying to become the first-ever mixed team winners at the 12th annual CVS Caremark Charity Classic.  Hot on their heels are five teams tied at 8-under-par including Billy Andrade/Bill Haas, Camilo Villegas/Bubba Watson, Brad Faxon/Rickie Fowler, Ricky Barnes/J.B. Holmes and Angela Stanford/Brett Quigley.

The co-ed pairings have added a lot of excitement to the tournament for both players and fans.  With such close scores, the championship title is still anyone’s to win.

“I enjoy playing with the guys,” said co-leader Juli Inkster.  “We don’t get to do it much.  It was just a really enjoyable round.”

When asked about how she likes being paired with PGA pros known for their long drives, Suzann Pettersen replied “It’s just a difference you have to accept.  Sometimes it’s nice to see how far you can hit it; and it’s always fun to see J.B. bomb it.  It’s actually unbelievable.”

Weekley Gives Back

As he did in 2008, Boo Weekely told tournament officials he’ll be donating half of his earnings back to the CVS Caremark Charity Classic which raises funds for hundreds of area charities.

“It’s a tremendous gesture that will go a long way in helping our charity partners,” said co-host Brad Faxon.
